Akumu Barbara Upoki is a versatile dancer majoring in all Latin dance styles. She received her first dance award in 2012 as the 1st prize winner of the Cinco de Mayo salsa Competitions. Barbara facilitates workshops in salsa, Argentine Tango, jive and lady styling.

She received her first African Contemporary dance training from Jonas Byaruhanga of Keiga Dance and then studied with U.S based dancer and Choreographer Olivier Tarpaga and with the University of Cologne’s Break Anatomy course.

Barbara has performed at the Bayimba Arts Festival and Dance week Uganda as well as created popular theatre productions such as ‘latin meets hiphop’. She is currently working as an  independent artist and when not on the dance floor she enjoys crocheting, baking and Spanish and sign language.

Dance lives deep within her soul and she would love for everyone to experience this gift!
