Festival Connect Fund | British Council
Deadline: March 31, 2024
Apply Here: britishcouncil.org
This 2024, we are launching our Festival Connect Fund, which enables new and innovative ways for connections, mobility, and exchanges and showcases contemporary arts between festivals across Africa and internationally. The Festival Connect Fund seeks grant proposals from festivals across various art forms such as Creative Technology, Dance, Film, Literature, Music, Theatre, and/or multi-disciplinary arts.
We acknowledge the broad diversity of festivals and in this regard welcome applications from festival organisations operating either annual, triennial, or biennial festival programmes both face-to-face and online.
The programme recognises the role of festivals in Africa as an embodiment of the traditions, values, and dreams of a place and its people as well as a catalyst to stimulate local economies, foster social connections, and enrich the lives of those who attend. In a world marked by rapid change, festivals remain essential in preserving the spirit and vitality of communities across Africa. It is against this backdrop, that we are providing an opportunity for festivals in Africa to apply for grants to collaborate, increase access for their audiences to both regional and international artists, and provide opportunities for experimentation and showcasing. Festivals that have been in operation for at least two biennales or three editions inclusive of both physical and digital editions are encouraged to apply.
OPEN CALL: FRAGILE – FOR YOUNG CHANGEMAKERS!
Deadline: 24 March, 2024
Apply Here: pinabauschzentrum.de
From 24 September to 6 October 2024, FRAGILE – the International Festival for Young DanceMusicTheatre, will be held in Wuppertal for the second time. The festival will take place in the Schauspielhaus and future Pina Bausch Centre, and will explore climate-neutral forms of production and new aesthetics for ecological sustainability.
We are searching for seven exciting productions with concepts for sustainable DanceMusicTheatre performances, especially those involving young people on stage and in the production process. Tell us: How did the production phases incorporate social, ecological, and economic concerns?
National and international initiatives, producers and artists are invited to present their productions. Networked, collaborative and proactive: How can the stage become a field of experimentation on the topic of sustainability? What unique power does dance possess in cultivating global empathy? Can we organise international productions more sustainably? How can actions of solidarity in the arts be brought into focus? What new narratives, spaces, materials, and modes of production can be developed in terms of energy, mobility, food, and forms of collaboration, and communication? We need swarm intelligence!
Ideally, participating productions will be tandems of art and ecology or climate initiatives, and have involved young people in different stages of the production process. We are searching for productions that reach a young audience and people of all generations, indoors or outdoors.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO NUMEROUS APPLICATIONS!
Applications may be submitted in English or German to fragile@pina-bausch.de until 24.03.2024. Decisions will be made by a panel of experts by 31 May 2024.
Concepts should include a short project description (2 pages) outlining the unique sustainability concept, as well as budget, CVs of project organisers, list of all individuals involved in the project, video links, and technical information/tech rider. Travel and transportation costs, accommodation, fees, per diems, and technical support will be covered.
Email address for inquiries: fragile@pina-bausch.de
The festival is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation’s fund Zero – Climate Neutral Art and Culture Projects. Co-funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. Additional sponsors: the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the City of Wuppertal and the Sparkasse Wuppertal. The Pina Bausch Centre will be an inviting and highly sustainable contemporary arts centre that is open all day to welcome a broad range of people. Its sustainability strategy is being developed in collaboration with the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy and the Szenografie-Bund.
