Edward is a versatile Ugandan dance practitioner, educator and choreographer. He is currently pursuing his artistic PhD in interdisciplinary contemporary arts (Dance major) at Simon Fraser University, School for Contemporary Arts, British Columbia, Canada.
He is the Artistic director of Dance Theatre Uganda (CLPGU LTD), and also works as Assistant dance Lecturer, Makerere University. His artistic and research works extensively draw inspiration from everyday life and the rich knowledge and skills embedded in indigenous Ugandan dances, music and tales.
He envisages working towards creating an ‘EAfrican’ aesthetic and movement based choreographic and pedagogical technique for informal and formal learning institutions.
His goal is to inspire, advocate, educate, and to use dance as a tool for positive education and socio-economic change. He attained his B.A from the Norwegian College of Dance, and his M.A in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage from Choreomundus, an international program offered by a consortium of four Universities, NTNU(Norway), Roehampton(UK), Szeged(Hungary), Clermont Auvergne(France).
Areas of interest: Dance and activism, Contemporary Arts, Dance as Intangible Cultural Heritage(ICH), dance diversification and decolonisation, interculturalism, dance identity and ownership.
