Omari Juma Athumani also known as Omari Chilla is a professional dance artist from Temeke, Dar es Salaam. He has been working with traditional, break dance, urban and contemporary dance styles since 2007.
In 2012 he won first prize at the Dance 100% East Africa TV competition and then received 1st prize at the Sakata Mashariki dance competition in Kenya in 2015 with the T-Africa dance group. From there he was selected to perform at the Tigo fiesta festivals in 2016 and 2017, followed by performances at the Kilimanjaro music awards in 2018.
Omari has performed on major platforms such as East African Nights of Tolerance (EANT) in Rwanda (2017), Nantea festival (2017), Batalo East festival in Uganda (2018), Time 2 Dance (2018), the Haba na Haba International dance festival (2021 & 2022), Lady JD concert at Mlimani city (2022), Coca Cola launching at the Hyatt hotel and Dansi Tena online festival (2022)
He was recently selected to play the main character in the Vinyago performance directed by Asedeva, which performed for 2 months at the Humboldt forum in Germany from November to December 2022.
Omari’s ambition is to be a great dancer and choreographer and to open a dance school.
