Kamanzi Yannick

Kamanzi Yannick is a movement stage artist who believes art is a platform that stirs social changes, raises awareness and starts important conversations. It was his quest for identity, understanding and accepting his origins as a post- memorial Rwandan that started his journey as a creator. Journeying into the music and theatrical scenes, Kamanzi’s current goal is to bridge generations through movement.

Since 2016 he has joined Amizero Dance Kompanie and attended various trainings: the EANT choreographic workshops, residencies and dancers exchanges. Kamanzi’s first creations are testimonial based productions: Quest to the Cure and Generations 25 addresses life aspects of the generation born after the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. With this same work Yannick has collaborated with artists and companies in Rwanda, Germany, the UK, US and France.

As an actor he has worked with the theater company Mashirika on projects such as Kwita Izina (2019), Transform Africa (2019) and Shared Stories (2020- onwards). He has worked as a dancer with the choreographer Wesley Ruzibiza on the East African Bolero ( 2018- onwards) and still conceptualizes and creates stage performances with local artists and filmmakers.

Kamanzi’s work continues to explore the Rwandan traditional movement, poetry and expression to inspire his creations and artistic language.
