Ulonzi Rajabu Almasi

Ulonzi Rajabu Almasi was born in 2000 and has had a passion for dance since the age of 15. He first learnt capoeira on the streets of his neighborhood and five years later he graduated from the Muda Africa dance school in Dar es Salaam. He has been performing in Tanzania, East Africa, Germany and Qatar.

He was part of the Cooperativa Maura Morales’ production entitled Haraka Haraka Haina Baraka, which performed at the Asphalt Festival in Düsseldorf, (Germany) at Tanz Moderne Tanz in Chemnitz (Germany)  and at the Time 2 Dance Festival in Tanzania. Other performances where he was a selected dancer include Lost Rights by Vanessa Tamburi (Italy) in 2019, Batalo East Festival in Uganda in 2019, Mawimbi by Johnny Autin (France) in 2020, Phone by Ian Mwaisunga (Tanzania) in 2021.

In 2021 he co-created Pamoja, which was selected for an Alliance francaise performance in Dar, the Dansi Tena online festival and the Jukwaa Huru event in 2022. Ulonzi continues to develop his choreographic skills and attended Wesley Ruzibiza and Moise Toure’s dramaturg seminars in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

In March 2023 he spent a week performing at the United Nations’ LDC5 conference in Doha, Qatar as part of Muda Africa’s UNESCO project. Ulonzi believes that through his dancing he can uplift his community and inspire other youth to use their talent in a creative way.
